Anyone thinking of going along with Duncan Hunter's endorsement of Huckabee should read Feder's article first.

I thought of Tom Tancredo while reading this post from Paul Cella, particularly this passage: "We are in the midst of a rather wild and wooly primary season. Rarely has there ever been such an opportunity as this to bring immediate and perceptible pressure to bear on politicians. These men and women would be our commander in chief in a war which has already included the most grievous blow ever struck against us by a foreign enemy. Do not let this moment pass. Press the candidates with these questions. Make them squirm. Embarrass them (gently) for their foolish euphemisms. Demonstrate that we will have no truck with such rhetorical games. Make obvious our impatience with that cupidity, that inertia, and that cravenness which would deprive us of our capacity for self-government on the war into which we have been flung." An excellent discussion follows, in which the authors discuss the tough measures that we will need to take against the jihadists who are already here. Cella's post reminded me how much Tom's presence in the debates is being missed these days. Who is pressing the candidates on how we can fight the jihad without secure borders? Remember Tom's ad on the jihadists who come to kill? I wish Tom would come out and start speaking in public about this issue again. I'm afraid he doesn't want to embarrass Romney, who doesn't comprehend the immigration dimension of the fight against Islamic terrorism. How frustrating!

The proposed bailout of subprime borrowers is a scandal that's received too little attention from those of us opposed to illegal immigration. It's a massive wealth transfer to people who shouldn't have been buying homes in the first place, many of whom were illegal aliens. It rewards people who borrowed beyond their means and is a slap in the face to responsible American citizens, who are being denied a chance to buy the surplus homes at discounted prices. What I'd like to know is what the candidates have said about it. Who is on record for opposing the bailout? And have the other candidates (e.g. Huckabee) alleged that the subprime crisis is "a test of what kind of people we are"? Or that it's racist to oppose this massive handout to illegals? If so, we need to make sure this information spreads all over the Internet, and try to have it brought up in future debates.

More evidence of Tancredo's impact on the campaign: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2T-iJKwskH4 Though I have other reasons to be reluctant to support Paul, it's good to see him making this kind of outreach toward Tancredo supporters. I particularly like the part about ending birthright citizenship. That's something we should all fight for, regardless of which candidate we now support.

This is priceless: "ABC reports Tancredo's Iowa ads are now being blamed for turning 5th graders into immigration hawks: When Iowa Democrat Tod Bowman got home Thursday night, he got an earful from his wife about what their fifth-grader had just done. Earlier that day, their son, Beau Bowman, asked Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., what he would do as president if U.S. troops were not yet back from Iraq when illegal immigrants "start to take action and start bombing buildings and stuff." When Beau Bowman's mom said how "embarrassed" she was, Tod Bowman's first reaction was that their 11-year-old had simply mangled his words. But in an interview with ABC News on Friday, Bowman said that he now thinks it's more than likely that his son's question was prompted by immigration ads which have been bombarding Iowa in advance of the state's Jan. 3 caucuses." Tom has just gotten one of his highest-profile endorsements so far, from Joseph Farah of WorldNetDaily (Hat tip: Lawrence Auster): "Tom Tancredo is right on all the major issues of the day, plus he has the added distinction of having led the fight in Washington for secure borders, a return to national sovereignty and against the kind of creeping internationalism that has characterized George W. Bush's failed presidency. This is no time for people to get weak in the knees, to start compromising principles for pragmatism, for accommodations to what the pollsters tell us is possible and impossible. Vote your conscience. Vote your principles. Don't vote for the lesser of evils. I believe if Americans took this advice, Tom Tancredo would win the nomination hands down. But, instead, too many of us accept the words of the experts who want to define for us what is politically possible. If you agree with me and you agree with Tom, vote for him. Vote for him in Iowa. Vote for him in New Hampshire. Vote for him in South Carolina. Vote for him in all the primaries. It's votes that count, not polling numbers. - Do you want that fence built fast?
- Do you think companies hiring illegal aliens should be punished?
- Do you want to end all the giveaway programs that attract millions of illegal aliens?
- Do you want to let our enemies know in advance there will be dire consequences for attacking us directly or through terrorist proxies?
- Do you want to end our drift into the insanity of multiculturalism?
- Do you want to scrap the income tax?
- Do you want to cut federal government spending and programs?
- Do you want to declare war on MS-13 and other dangerous organized criminal gangs in this country?
- Do you want to end the scourge of abortion on demand?
- Do you want to rein in activist judges abusing their authority?
- Do you want to preserve and defend your God-given right to defend yourself and your Second Amendment-protected right to bear arms?
Do you want to vote for someone who speaks the truth? We still have a chance. Don't accept less." Bravo Mr. Farah!

I’m sure by now everyone’s familiar with some of the local action that people are taking on illegal immigration. On some of his recent TV appearances, Tom Tancredo has made reference to the tough new legislation that was recently passed in Oklahoma (H.B. 1804), which has led to an estimated 20,000 illegal aliens leaving Oklahoma in the last few weeks. (See his official campaign blog for the video of his appearances.) For an inspiring story about local action on immigration, see if you can get your hands on a copy of the Oct. 8 American Conservative, and read Michael Brendan Dougherty’s article "Mutiny in the Valley". (Sorry, it’s not online.) It's about several young people, some who were only college students, who ran for office in suburban New York on a simple platform that Tanc supporters will be familiar with: ENFORCE ... THE ... LAW! They were outraged by sanctuary city policies, and people told them they couldn't beat the long-time incumbents, but they took advantage of the public mood and won! The story is reminiscent of Tom Tancredo’s story about how he originally got into politics. Tancredo was a teacher who used to tell his students how important it was to get involved in their community, until they asked him what he was doing. He promised to run for office if all his students would do a certain amount of work on a campaign or cause in their community. They did, and he ran, and the rest is history!
In this article, Randall Burns demonstrates that the fair market value of a green card is close to $100,000. I’m sure we all know instinctively that being part of the greatest country on earth is worth a lot, but many don’t stop to think. This is an argument you can use anytime someone tries to tell you that amnesty with a $5,000 fine is a "tough" immigration policy. It’s similar to a thief stealing a $100,000 item and then saying, "I’ll make you a deal: I’ll pay you $5,000 if you let me keep this!" Every candidate now says, "I oppose amnesty," but remember that many of them think, "if they have to pay a fine, it’s not amnesty." In fact, some of their online supporters are out to convince the voters that amnesty-with-a-fine is not amnesty. But not Tom Tancredo! Tom will stand against all amnesty! I look forward to meeting everyone! "It’s your culture, fight for it!" – Tom Tancredo
